Prof. Giuseppe Cannazza
He is an Associate Professor in medicinal chemistry at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and Associate Researcher at CNR NANOTEC of LECCE. He leads a research group at the Department of Life Sciences of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia that develops analytical methods for the study of cannabis extracts and a research group at CNR NANOTEC of Lecce that develops advanced analytical methods for the comprehensive chemical characterization of plant material. He has been responsible for regional and national projects. He is author of over 100 publications on peer reviewed international journals. He has been invited speaker to several seminars in Italy and abroad on the different uses of cannabis. He has been selected as author of the Chemistry reports on Cannabis plant and resin, Extracts of cannabis, THC and THC isomers for 40th Expert Committee on Drug Dependence (ECDD) of World Health Organization (WHO). Fabiana Russo, PhD Student
Fabiana Russo is a Ph.D. student in Clinical and Experimental Medicine (curriculum: Nanomedicine, Medicinal
and Pharmaceutical Sciences) at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE). She is a graduate
of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology at UNIMORE (2019). After graduation, she obtained a research
grant that gave her the opportunity to collaborate in the project of Industrial Research and Experimental
Development: “Utilizzo di biomassa da canapa industriale per la produzione di energia e nuovi biochemicals”
PNR 2015 – 2020 (09/2019-10/2020). Currently, in the ambit of her Ph.D. program, she is involved in the
chemical-pharmaceutical characterization of the new phytocannabinoids. In particular, her multidisciplinary
work includes chemical synthesis and the development of Liquid Chromatography coupled with High-
Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HPLC-HRMS) methods for targeted and un-targeted metabolomic analysis.
